Project Overview

Scope of Work
The aim of the consultancy was to develop a draft handbook to promote and guide the implementation of effective GBV prevention initiatives in the region. The deliverables were:

  1. Review outcomes and resources from the joint regional conference on “Prevention of Violence Against Women and Girls in Southern Africa – from Evidence to Action.”

  2. Conduct a literature review of key regional and international resources, including those from UN Women, to identify effective strategies, measures, and mechanisms for GBV prevention.

  3. Draft guidelines on what works and what has been proven not to work in preventing GBV (Dos and Don’ts).

  4. Develop a draft handbook using the gathered information to engage member states for further input.

Outputs/Key achievements
A draft handbook which will be further developed as a comprehensive handbook to promote and guide implementation of effective GBV prevention initiatives in the region.

Dr. Lina Digolo is a paediatrician and epidemiologist who has spent over 17 years leading efforts to prevent violence against women and children and strengthen health and protection systems across the Global South. She works at the intersection of research, policy, and practice to design and scale solutions that improve outcomes for children, families, and communities.
She is widely recognized for her ability to translate evidence into action, helping governments, civil society organizations, and donors build programs that are effective, context-driven, and sustainable. In addition to leading more than 15 major studies, Lina plays a thought leadership role in advising organizations and donors to refine their strategies, strengthen systems, and align investments with evidence and practice-based learning.
Through Evidence & BEYOND, she provides technical leadership and strategic advice to partners worldwide, supporting them to strengthen capacity and deliver lasting impact where it is needed most.
