Good research and good research uptake require different capabilities. We work across both.
Our research and evaluation work brings the methodological depth needed to generate evidence that is robust, relevant and grounded in context. Our research uptake work focuses on what enables that evidence to travel, be understood and influence decisions across policy, programmes and practice.
Together, these two areas reflect how we think about evidence: it needs to stand up to scrutiny, and it needs a pathway into use.
Our work spans both the generation of rigorous evidence and the processes that help evidence reach the people, conversations and decisions where it can make a difference.
Our studies and evaluations are designed to answer important programme and policy questions while remaining attentive to context, implementation and the people whose experiences sit behind the data.
Evidence & BEYOND conducted a baseline evaluation in Kilifi South to establish evidence on parenting practices, family relationships, gender norms, household vulnerability and exposure to violence, informing programme adaptation and future monitoring.
We conducted a multi-method qualitative study across Ganze, Kaloleni and Magarini sub-counties to understand participant experiences, programme implementation and the contextual factors shaping delivery, generating practical learning to inform future adaptation and scale-up.
Evidence & BEYOND led a national qualitative study examining changes in children’s experiences of violence in Kenya between the 2010 and 2019 Violence Against Children Surveys, exploring the policies, programmes, institutional shifts and prevention and response systems that may have contributed to change. The findings were used by the Ministry of Labour and Social Protection to inform the revision of Kenya’s National Response Plan for preventing violence against children.
Generating evidence does not automatically lead to its use. Our research uptake work strengthens the capabilities, relationships and practical pathways that help research move into policy, programmes and practice.
Our team supported four Evaluation Fund research projects in Tanzania and Uganda through a structured accompaniment programme combining facilitated learning and tailored mentorship. Teams developed project-specific research uptake objectives, stakeholder strategies, workplans and monitoring approaches, with continued support as they moved into implementation.
Our team delivered a year-long accompaniment programme supporting research teams across Africa and Asia to develop and strengthen research uptake plans through progressive workshops and project-specific mentorship, covering stakeholder engagement, messaging, activities, work planning, monitoring and researcher-practitioner collaboration.
